Welcome to VFOM Missouri Trail Blog

I'm blogging now.

I encourage everyone to tell us about your wilderness experience, good or great.

Robert and I enjoyed hiking in Arkansas over the 4th of July weekend.
We hiked in Lost Valley to the Eden Cave and Falls. So lush and green. Our timing was great. As we ended our walk, it began to rain. By the time we were on the road, it was pouring down.

We also hiked a portion to the Buffalo River Trail. Saw a couple of blow-downs, But Robert left his saw in the car. We reported the trees down, ate some lunch and hiked back. Enjoyed a dip in the river, before ending our trip.

Tell us about your hiking experiences.
Love to hear them.

  1. I recently relocated to the Springfield, MO area to be closer to family and bring my computer consulting business with me (Quantum Computers, www.quantum-comp.net). I thought for sure that the trails and parks in SW Missouri would have been fabulous...I couldn't have been so wrong. The trails, while some were paved, offered little-to-no difficulty, could be biked within a 35-45 min time frame, and the signs explaining where trails began and end were almost non-existent, if even there at all. Whomever is in charge of designing and maintaining these trails, should be either removed or fired, as they've done such a poor job of it. Any work like this in the private sector and you'd be changing careers, as this kind of work is not acceptable. I hope that VFOM can and will change the current state of things so that not only residents but also guests to the area get to enjoy what should be a very beautiful part of the country.

  2. Yes, WE hope VFOM can correct these problems and enhance the wilderness experience for everyone. WE would love for visitors to come to the Ozark, just for our trails.

We would like to know which trails you feel need work done. on tread or signage. By putting together a program to improve those trails that need it most. we can make the biggest difference.

    Thanks Stephen.

  3. Yes VFOM does have a Vison of better trails in Missouri for hiking and biking and other users. We are building a trail at Lake Springfield that is for hiking. It offers a great view for our hikers. We will be working there this Saturday the 21st of November . Our massage is "better trails will improved the quality of life for Springfield" and more visitors will come and use our trails.

    Thank Stephen for your input.
